internet 2016

These days, many common services and sources of information for seniors are only available on the internet.

The internet is also a big and amazing place that can open doors and broaden horizons. It is full of interesting people and ideas, and all of this is available from your computer or tablet.

Before you go exploring, there are some precautions you need to take to protect yourself, such as protecting personal information, how to protect your privacy, and how to recognize fraudulent scams.

Using material from The Smart Cybersecurity Network (SERENE-RISC), Librarians from the North Bay Public Library will instruct participants on how to get the most out of their internet explorations while protecting themselves and family members at the same time. Topics included are:

  • Basic internet concepts
  • Security concepts
  • Identifying yourself
  • Setting security and privacy
  • Others’ behaviour
