Police lay identity and drug charges

Police have saved some people the headache of identity theft after making an arrest last week and seizing forged documents

On Tuesday, May 26, the Almaguin Highlands OPP Criminal Investigation Unit stopped a vehicle, after recognizing the driver who had outstanding arrest warrants.

The driver provided a false name to the police and was arrested. Investigation showed the driver was in possession of crystal-methamphetamine and had forged documents.

Police charged Jonathan Deamaral, 30, of Toronto Ontario with:

  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice (identity fraud)
  • Three counts of possession of a forged document with intent
  • Three counts of identity theft - obtain or possess another person's identity information
  • Possession of a schedule I substance 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine

Deamaral was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, August 27, in Sundridge.
