Over $880,000 in emergency relief funding is being distributed to Nipissing district organizations and service providers to help manage the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the most vulnerable.

On April 2, the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) announced it had received $589,200 in Social Services Emergency Relief Funding from the provincial government and $292,252 from the Federal government through Reaching Home.

A DNSSAB survey to community agencies identified food, personal protective equipment, housing supports and homelessness shelter supports as the top four priorities. District organizations who applied for this funding by April 16 resulted in a total of $1.2 Million in funding requests.

DNSSAB disbursed $85,400 of this fund in amounts of up to $5,000 to 20 organizations in the top two priority areas; food and meal distribution and PPE, to immediately relieve some of the pressure on these organizations.

The DNSSAB yesterday divided the remaining $796,052 in funds to other community organizations:

“While we are very grateful for the SSRF and Reaching Home funding from the provincial and federal government, it’s clear that the need surpasses the funds available," said chair Chair Mark King. "The DNSSAB will continue to seek additional funding to lessen the hardship for organizations delivering support services during this pandemic crisis.”
