OPP INVESTIGATING ATV COLLISION

The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision at approximately 7:19 p.m. on September 25, 2014. The incident occurred on a trail near Clear Lake Road in Whitestone Township.

The driver and passenger were negotiating a curve when the vehicle a 2004 Honda left the travelled portion of the roadway and entered the forest.  As the vehicle left the roadway, there was a slight incline of the ground which would have caused the front to thrust upward and the occupants to lunge forward. The driver and lone rider on the vehicle may have contacted each other’s head. The victim a 15 year-old female was transported from the scene by ambulance and flown to Toronto with unknown injuries at this time.

Also responding to this collision were the First Response and Ambulance Services. The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.

 ATV drivers are reminded of the following:

  • ATVs are motor vehicles according to the criminal code. Impaired driving penalties and prohibitions are the same as for any other motor vehicle.  Don't drink and drive. 
  • Approved helmets must be worn at all times.
  • No passengers are permitted on ATVs being operated on roadways.
  • A proper drivers licence, registration and insurance are required to operate an ATV on a roadway.
  • ATV Speed Limits:
    • 20 km/h max where speed limit is 50 km/h or less;
    • 50 km/h max where speed limit is over 50 km/h.
