OPP CHARGE DRIVER WITH TRAFFICKING AND DISQUALIFIED DRIVING

An officer with South Porcupine Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a man as a result of a traffic investigation on Highway 101, Timmins, on November 11, 2014.

While conducting the traffic stop, it was revealed that the driver was a Class G-1 driver and that he had no accompanying driver with him.  There was also a restriction on his driver’s licence that he was to have an interlock ignition device installed in his vehicle.

During further investigation a large quantity of suspected marihuana buds was located and seized from the vehicle.

As a result  of police investigation, the driver, Joey Larry CORMIER, 26, of Timmins, was charged with Trafficking as per section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and for Disqualified Driving as per section 259 (4) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).  The vehicle he was driving was subject to a 7-day impoundment due to his disqualified driver’s licence status for not having an interlock.  He was further charged with Class G1 Licence Holder Unaccompanied by a Qualified Driver in contravention of section 5.1 Ontario Regulation (O. Reg) 340/94 of the HTA. .

The registered owner of the vehicle, Cassandra RECOSKIE, 25, of Timmins, was charged with Permit Novice Driver to Drive in Contravention of Restriction, as per section 32 (11.1) of the HTA. .

CORMIER is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on January 6, 2015.
