OPP assist with investigation into child's death

On September 30, at approximately 4 a.m., officers from the Hearst Detachment of the OPP were called to assist the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) and Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with a child in medical distress on Constance Lake First Nation.

The female, three years of age, from Constance Lake First Nation, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Officers with the OPP Crime Unit in James Bay, Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the NAPS Crime Unit are assisting with the investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). 

This investigation is currently being conducted under the authority of the Coroner's Act and a post mortem examination has been scheduled to take place in Sudbury on Monday, October 2, 2017.
