One person dies in snowmobile accident in Almaguin Highlands

 The third collision involved a fatality on a motorized snow vehicle. Police had no further details in a news release

The Almaguin Highlands OPP patrolled local highways, towns, villages and snowmobile trails this Family Day long weekend and officers wrote a total of 17 Provincial Offence Notices.

  • Nine drivers were charged with "speeding," 
  • one driver was charged with "failing to drive in marked lane," 
  • one driver was charged with "drive while under suspension," 
  • one driver was charged for "using plate not authorized,"
  • two drivers were charged with "drive motor vehicle - no currently validated permit,"
  • two drivers were charged with "failing to surrender insurance card" and
  • one person was charged with "owner permit operation of a motor vehicle on highway - no insurance."

This weekend there were three motor vehicle collisions in the Almaguin Highlands area, two of the collisions report no injuries. The third collision involved a fatality on a motorized snow vehicle.

Officers also conducted R.I.D.E. programs throughout the area and checked a total of 184 vehicles and drivers.

No-one was charged with impaired driving.
