Officers detected an odour of alcohol

Sunday at approximately 12:50 a.m., North Bay OPP officers stopped a vehicle for a sobriety check in North Bay.   

After speaking to the driver, officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver was transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests. The tests revealed that he had over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

As a result of the police investigation, Chris Barton, 28, of Collingwood, has been charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol
  • Driving with More Than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood and
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance. 

Barton was issued a 90 day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, on March 6.
