News Release

****************

The North Bay & District Humane Society & the City of North Bay are proud to announce the first ‘Off-Leash Dog Park’ within the City Limits.

Work has already begun and the official opening will take place no later than spring 2015.

The Board has been working closely with all of their partners to secure a location within the City limits and this announcement will also serve as a call to action for the community to help raise funds, provide input, and be engaged with the process.

“The Humane Society has received countless requests to build a Dog Park and the Board is answering the call for an ‘Off-Leash Dog Park’.  This project is one of our priorities and on behalf of the Board members I would like to thank the many community partners who have been tremendously supportive and particularly the Dog Park Committee who is worked tirelessly to make this facility a reality”
“The North Bay & District Humane Society is a leader in animal welfare and improving the access to services for pets and their owners is part of our core mandate to Provide, Protect & Educate”. – Mary Davis, Board Chair

“This is an exciting announcement for the organization that was established in 1954. Establishing an ‘Off-Leash Dog Park’ will give dog owners a safe and secure location to allow their pet to run freely while under their supervision.” – Daryl Vaillancourt, Executive Director

“The City of North Bay is proud to support the North Bay Humane Society to meet a need of dog owners in the community.  The City will be providing a parcel of land through a lease agreement to the Human Society so that the Humane Society can establish and operate the Off Leash Dog Park within the City.  It is important to recognize that the Humane Society will be funding the capital and operating costs of the Dog Park through the generous donations of its supporters and benefactors.  On behalf of the Mayor and Council I would like to thank the Humane Society, its supporters and its funding sponsors for undertaking such a project.” - Councillor David Mendicino - chair of Community Services.
