A student at Widdifield Secondary School, 16-year-old Jared Weber, set a personal best for pickerel caught on Lake Nipissing recently.
The fish is 30 inches in length and was live released immediately after photos were taken.
"I would rather not disclose the exact location on the lake," Jared told BayToday, "but I was using a yellow jig-head and a shiner minnow."
A lot more fish are likely to take the bait in the next few weeks as colder weather has prompted a flood of ice huts onto Nipissing.
Local snowmobile trails opened yesterday.
