North Bay Team FIRST LEGO League teams bring home hardware from Provincials

Hypothermics researched and designed a robot to work within the library to access books for customers outside of regular library hours
Last weekend, 40 teams participated in the First LEGO League East Provincial Championships in Oshawa.

North Bay sent two teams to represent our area, the Hypothermics and the North Bay RefridgeRAIDERS.

Both teams won awards at the tournament.

"They represented North Bay with pride, had fun while learning and had an amazing weekend," said spokeswoman Heather Kelso.

The Hypothermics won the Research Award and the North Bay RefridgeRAIDERS won the Judges Award.

In addition to building and programming an autonomous LEGO robot, teams are expected to complete a real-world project while learning Core Values. This year's project team was named "City Shaper" and teams were tasked to find a problem in their city and find the best solution.

Hypothermics researched and designed a robot to work within the library to access books for customers outside of regular library hours. Part of their research included touring Amazon and learning how their robots pick and distribute products in addition to speaking with libraries across North America.

North Bay RefrideRAIDERS have designed an indoor athletic centre featuring tennis courts. They met with Canadian Parapan American Games Champion and worked with city architects to design an athletic centre for North Bay..

All of the students attend Vincent Massey.
