CIM Northern Gateway Branch presents the North Bay Mining Week Luncheon

Alicia Woods, creator of Covergalls, featured as guest speaker

North Bay, ON – As part of North Bay Mining Week, the Canadian Institute for Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum - Northern Gateway Branch, are hosting a Special Luncheon being held at the Davedi Club on Tuesday, May 5th at 11:30 am.  WIPWARE is sponsoring the luncheon which will feature Alicia Wood, Director of Sales at MacLean Engineering and Creator of Covergalls Inc, as the guest speaker.

“It's great to have Alicia speaking at the luncheon.  She demonstrates the innovative spirit that this Mining Week is all about,” says Suzanne Lafontaine, Mining Week Committee Chair.

Alicia Woods developed Covergalls after spending time underground in protective equipment that was made for men and therefore not practical for women.  It didn’t make sense to her as there are currently so many women working underground – there should be something to fit their needs.  Therefore, Woods developed a line of work wear designed specifically for women.  Covergalls also has local roots – the product is designed in Sudbury and manufactured in Canada. Woods appeared on CBC’s Dragon’s Den to pitch her product and walked away with funding.  She now has an expanded product line, an online store and increasing sales.

“The response has been tremendous, extremely positive,” says Woods. “A lot of the mining companies are creating initiatives to attract and retain more women and some are seeing the Covergall as a tool to do that.”

This luncheon, and North Bay Mining Week as a whole, is helping to show the important contribution the mining industry and the companies based in North Bay make to the economy.  By hosting events with speakers such as Alicia Woods, this year’s Mining Week is promoting the mining industry and the opportunities within it while building a foundation for future Mining Weeks.

This luncheon is open to CIM members and the public.
