Aromatherapy is the art and science of using and combining essential oils for their therapeutic benefits; to elicit a positive change to one's health and wellness. It is a holistic practice in that aromatherapy can work to bring about changes to body, mind and spirit. It is considered to be a complementary or alternative health care practice that focuses on health promotion and illness prevention.

Grear says benefits of aromatherapy are numerous and include: reducing feelings and impact of stress, anxiety, insomnia and depression, easing pain and muscle tension, speeding healing process, alleviating headaches and migraines, reducing severity of psoriasis and eczema, and it can help boost mental capacity and memory.
