New book to raise money for hospice

I want for society to understand how our seniors are marginalized and are not getting the respect or quality of care they require.
three score and ten what then
"Three score and Ten, What Then?" is a new book written by Peggy Smith.

Peggy Smith just published her first book titled "Three score and Ten, What Then?"

This is a story about an elderly lady who lives in a long-term care facility.  A month before her 105th birthday she spends a day reminiscing with her granddaughter and reveals her life story.

"When people ask me what my book is about, I tell them that it that offers the reader a glimpse into our past, a splash of romance, and an insight into long-term care, "Smith told BayToday.

The story is staged here in the "Near North" region of Ontario and talks about local history. It is written from a resident's point of view.

"I worked for over 20 years in long-term care and wrote the book to provide information and promote awareness about long-term care. Most people don't know much about long-term care unless they work in a long-term care facility or have a loved one who resides in a facility. I want for society to understand how our seniors are marginalized and are not getting the respect or quality of care they require. I want people to understand what it is like for a person to have lived their whole life, being a contributing part of society, only to end up dying in a long-term care facility.

"We need to speak out and have our government make real changes that will provide the help they need. I hope my book will provide a voice for those who can no longer speak and reach out to someone who has the power to make these changes.

"Both of my parents, and three of my grandparents, died in long-term care, so I have a personal interest invested, too. I’ve witnessed it from both angles. I know firsthand what it is all about."

Smith is donating $5 from every copy to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

"My goal is to sell 1,000 copies. My first official book signing is on February 7th at 6:30 pm at the Powassan Library."

The book is being sold at Gulliver's Quality Books and Toys, and at the Hospital Gift shop at NBRHC in North Bay,and The Powassan Library.
