Music mixes with caregiving in upcoming seminar

The 3-level Music Care Certificate Program prepares caregivers to use music in their care practice with increased confidence and theoretical understanding.
music care seminar 2016

This two-day course will teach caregivers (professional, volunteer and family) how to enhance their care by using music.

The roots of Room 217 are in palliative care, with music produced at 60 beats per minute (the resting heart rate) to encourage relaxation. Our therapeutic music resources are used extensively in long-term care homes, retirement homes, hospice and palliative care settings, adult day programs and hospitals, by a number of professionals.

For your health and/or education beats, please consider a feature on Room 217, which has become a leader in music care. Our resources are being used across Canada (and in other countries), and the Level 1 certificate program has trained more than 300 caregivers how to integrate music into their caregiving practice. Our resources include the Pathways Singing Program for people with dementia, which was voted the top innovation in the commercialization stream at the Ontario Long Term Care Association’s fall This Is Long Term Care conference in November 2015.

About the Music Care Certificate Program

The 3-level Music Care Certificate Program prepares caregivers to use music in their care practice with increased confidence and theoretical understanding. It is suitable for allied health care providers, family and volunteer caregivers, musicians, teachers and any other community stakeholders who would like to increase their knowledge and practical applications of music in care.

This program is designed to help enrich caregivers’ practices with the knowledge and experience of music. It is complementary to other professional trainings, and can help inform other scopes of practice and caregiving experiences. This certificate may be used as proof of additional training, continuing education, or professional development in the area of music care. As music care principles become more widely recognized as an integrated component of health care, this training can serve as a standard for understanding these principles.
