Updated story 5:30 p.m.:

The first day of school and a reminder for children and drivers to be alert of the danger of roadways.

In a Facebook post, the North Bay OPP say they were called to investigate a collision involving a child and a vehicle this morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the by-pass and O'Brien Street. Investigation revealed an 10-year-old child rode his bike in the crosswalk on a red light, hitting a car. The child received minor injuries.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to talk to your children about traffic safety! We want all children to get to and from school safely!
- walk bikes across intersections
- wait for the walking sign to illuminate before crossing the street
- look both ways when crossing the street
- walk on the left side of the road

As a driver, be aware of your surroundings. For instance, be on the lookout for areas where children are likely to use or be near the road: crosswalks, school zones, playground zones, bus stops, near parks and residential complexes. Young children may be more difficult to see, and may run or ride bicycles quickly out of hidden driveways. ^sc
