Chef Nicolas Gignac of The Miner’s Son Restaurant and Lounge took home the North Bay Professional Firefighters’ Trophy from the fourth-annual chili cook-off last Friday night during the Old Fashioned Christmas Walk downtown.

Ten of North Bay’s finest restaurants donated their chefs’ best pot of chili to help bring awareness and fundraise for the CIBC Run for the Cure and Discovery North Bay Museum.

The event was judged by the public and raised $1,113, with Ivan’s Restaurant coming in second and Fox and Fiddle third.

The Champion Miner's Son is a local restaurant on McKeown with an exciting concept of fresh foods, unique meats, craft beers and a Chefs Table. Nicolas Gignac was excited to put his top chili recipe to the test and the citizens of North Bay rewarded the young chef with top honors.

A strong turn out of local restaurants and volunteers made the 4th annual chili cook-off a big success. Restaurants who participated included The moose, Average Joes, Shoeless Joes, Cecils, The Davedi Club, Wacky Wings, Burger World, Ivans, Fox and the fiddle and The Miner's Son.
