Métis Cultural Days A Hit In Callander

The Métis Nation of Ontario spent the day in traditional garb and taught visitors about their heritage through crafts and artifacts, and set up a small encampment.

This summer the Callander Bay Heritage Museum ran three days of Métis themed events that brought out over 60 people of all ages to participate in workshops and learn about their history.

On July 13th the Métis Nation of Ontario spent the day in traditional garb and taught visitors about their heritage through crafts and artifacts, and set up a small encampment in our gallery as part of their historical interpretation re-enactment.

On August 9th, artist Francine Noiseux spoke of her Native heritage and what it means to her. She did a smudging ceremony and spoke of the medicine wheel, her teachings and brought along personal artifacts of special significance to her.

The events wrapped up on August 11th with the Métis Nation of Ontario returning to put on a jigging workshop, a customary form of Métis dance, and taught traditional Voyageur games.

The Callander Bay Heritage Museum thanks the presenters and all the visitors that came out to support the events.
