Man tries to avoid RIDE checkpoint, gets charged

An officer with the Highway Safety Division of the South Porcupine Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 30 year old South Porcupine, Ontario man as a result of a traffic stop on Frederick House Lake Road, Timmins, on October 31, 2014.

Police had set up a RIDE program at that location and observed a motor vehicle turn around before reaching the checkpoint and drive away at a high rate of speed.  Police followed the vehicle and were able to pull it over.  As a result of the traffic stop and police investigation, the driver, Kass CORNER, was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle section 172. (1) and Driving While Under Suspension section 53 (1) as per the Highway Traffic Act.  In addition his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
