Man flees police, now facing multiple charges

Huntsville OPP have charged a man with multiple offences after trying to stop a pickup truck today.

Early Tuesday at 4:35 a.m., officers saw the pickup truck driving westbound on Highway 60, in the Hidden Valley area of Huntsville.

The pickup failed to stop and fled from Police.

Eventually the truck came to a stop and the male driver, alone in the vehicle, jumped out and ran.

He was caught and arrested.

James Rye, 53, from Huntsville is charged with:

  • Flight from police
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief to property
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a probation order 
  • Failing to comply with a release order
  • Failing to comply with an undertaking
  • Possession of a schedule I substance-cocaine 

  Rye is being held for a bail hearing scheduled for today.
