Man faces impaired charges

A Machar township man is facing numerous charges after he was allegedly caught speeding while impaired and had liquor in the vehicle.  

Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police were conducting radar enforcement on Highway 124. Police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and consequently stopped the driver in July 1 around 8 p.m. 

Police investigation revealed that the driver, Daniel Sundberg, 43 of Machar Township had been drinking and was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

  •  Operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14 (1)(b) CC
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA)

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, September 24, 2020 in Sundridge, Ontario.
