Local groups get Francophone Community grants

The project will provide French-language documents and outreach to Francophone communities in order to assist in the creation of business start-ups and in business expansions

Forty-eight community organizations and businesses will receive a total of $1 million in funding as part of the Francophone Community Grants Program.

In our area, one organization is from North Bay and two others are from Temiskaming Shores.

The program supports the cultural and economic development of the province's Francophone communities.

In North Bay, The Nipissing Parry Sound Business Center Inc. receives $7,200 for a project called the "French Resources & Community Outreach" project. It will provide French-language documents and outreach to Francophone communities in order to assist in the creation of business start-ups and in business expansions.

ARTEM Cultural Center in New Liskeard gets $ 23,968 for a project called "Francophones at the forefront." It will see the creation of a social and accessible space for the celebration of diversity and Francophone culture, in partnership with a local art gallery.

And The Suites of the Presidents' Suites, in Haileybury gets, "Development of Francophone Tourism Experiences for Temiskaming in Ontario" gets $49,888. It will support Francophone community entrepreneurs in the development of tourism and cultural initiatives in the Temiskaming region through training and workshops.

Funding from the program will help strengthen the capacity of 48 Francophone organizations and businesses to serve Ontario's French-speaking community, with a focus on improving front-line services, and to promote the French-language and culture.

The scope and objectives of the selected projects span several key sectors and include festivals, cultural events, training and recruitment activities to help businesses find bilingual workers, as well as workshop initiatives, marketing and promotional supports.

"The Francophone Community Grants Program is a central element of our government's plan to build the capacity of Francophone organizations across Ontario and those serving Francophone markets, said Minister Mulroney. "By providing them with opportunities to implement impactful projects, we will help Francophone communities thrive and contribute to the overall prosperity of our province."
