Local entrepreneur earns mining award

Roy Slack is the founder and former President of Cementation Americas and still serves on the company board and executive committee

At the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Convention award ceremony on April 29, Roy Slack was presented with a CIM Fellowship Award.

The CIM Fellowship award was established by CIM Council in 1986. It recognizes distinguished CIM members for their achievements and contributions to the CIM and to the mining industry in general.

Roy Slack is the founder and former President of Cementation Americas and still serves on the company board and executive committee. He served as CIM President for the 2019-2020 term, and continues to work with the CIM on various committees as well as on the executive of the Northern Gateway (North Bay) Branch of the CIM.

“As employees of mining and mining service companies, we are all involved in the industry," said Slack in accepting the award. "It is important to get involved beyond our day jobs if we can, and volunteer for organizations that work on things that we believe in. This award really recognizes that volunteer work and I am proud to call myself a CIM Fellow.”
