QUEEN’S PARK – Liberal budget amendments today are an admission concerns brought forward by the Ontario PC caucus regarding transit and infrastructure funding were legitimate, said Finance Critic and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

Fedeli pointed out last summer that a loophole in last year’s budget bill would see the government put asset sale proceeds into general revenues, not directly into the Trillium Trust as they had claimed.

“We proposed amendments that would have fixed this last year, but the Liberals voted them down.  Now, the Liberals have put forward their own amendments to address this, but in trying to fix their own loophole, they’ve created another loophole!” Fedeli said incredulously.

The Liberal amendments still do not specify when the funds have to be deposited into the Trillium Trust, nor do they provide a specific mechanism to report to the Legislature on the status of the Trust, and what exactly has been deposited.

“Once again, the Liberals want to appear to be doing one thing, when they’re doing quite another,” said Fedeli.
