The SOUNDplay festival by New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) continues in November with a weekend of events featuring Geronimo Inutiq on November 15 & and17 in North Bay and South River.

DJ, musician and video artist, Geronimo Inutiq is from Iqaluit but is now based in Montreal.

The White Water Gallery in North Bay will host a performance of By Land and Water November 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. during the Downtown Gallery Hop. This performance is a co-presentation with White Water Gallery and the Near North Mobile Media Lab and will coincide with the North Bay Film Festival.

By Land and Water is a live audiovisual performance by Geronimo Inutiq with ambient electronic music, and manipulated video footage.

The NAISA North Media Arts Centre in South River will host an artist talk and video screening entitled "The audio-visual works of Geronimo Inutiq" on November 17 at 2 p.m. By combining video jockeying with the practice of DJ-ing, Inutiq can present archives and original material in an experimental cut-up approach.

During this talk, Inutiq will facilitate discussion on different topics in relation to the ideas presented while showing his video works.

"Inutiq’s films and performances feature imagery from northern Canada, which he manipulates and rearranges to form an abstract visual narrative, with the countryside as the main focus of reflection," according to a news release.

"Inutiq’s ethereal melodies and drones create a further means of contemplation on ideas of travel, nature, solitude - and connectedness to the environment and the country we live with. Known for his work as “madeskimo” - and helping innovate a fusion of Inuit throat-singing and drumming with electronic beats - Inutiq has also become recognized for doing video and visual art in the context of a museum, galleries, and public exhibits while also running the Indigene Audio independent tape label."

The SOUNDplay Festival also includes the exhibition Kinetic Transmissions by Gordon Monahan until January 6 at the NAISA North Media Arts Centre.  This kinetic sound installation by a Governer General’s award-winning media artist uses electronic audio signals to power toy motors that make instruments and found objects resonate and rattle.
