Impaired drivers charged

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On Thursday August 20, 2015 a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle on Seguin Street in the Town of Parry Sound at approximately 11:33 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle Keri HELMKAY (43) of Parry Sound, ON was arrested by police and was brought back to the West Parry Sound OPP Detachment.   The driver was subsequently charged with driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.  HELMKAY was also charged with Driving under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. The accused was released from custody and is required to attend court on Thursday September 17, 2015 in Parry Sound, ON.

On Saturday August 22, 2015 at 4:43 p.m. West Parry Sound OPP were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on the Hurdville Road in McKellar Township.

As a result of the investigation the motorist was given a demand for an approved screening device. (ASD) The male driver subsequently registered a fail was arrested and taken to the West Parry Sound OPP detachment for breath tests. 

Darko KOMUNJAR (62) of Aurora, ON was subsequently charged with driving with over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The male will appear in a Parry Sound court on Thursday September 17, 2015 in Parry Sound, ON to answer to the charge.

On Saturday August 22, 2015 at 10:22 a.m. West Parry Sound received a complaint of a motor vehicle all over the road on highway 141 Seguin Township. As a result of the report and police investigation a Gail KAVANGH (52) of Oakville ON was subsequently charged with driving with over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The female will appear in a Parry Sound court on Thursday September 17, 2015 in Parry Sound, ON to answer to the charge.

Staff Sergeant Ron Campbell stated, “If you plan on drinking don’t plan on driving”.
