Hands theFamilyHelpNetwork.ca has an opportunity for leaders looking to build connections with peers in Northern Ontario while actively helping their communities: Now is your chance to join the Hands Board of Directors.

"Hands is looking for leaders who are passionate about Hands’ vision: Working together to create a better day today and tomorrow, and who share our values: Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Accountability, and Quality," says a news release.

The Hands’ Board offers its members learning and professional development opportunities while fostering leadership and providing networking connections with other leaders.

"Successful applicants get the chance to make a real difference in their communities by sharing their knowledge and expertise to help Hands, a leading social-services agency, make a positive difference in the lives of the individuals and families they serve."

“Working with the Hands Board of Directors has been profoundly rewarding to me personally and professionally. I highly recommend the experience for anyone looking to learn and make a positive contribution,” said current Board Chair Tonia Blenkarn.  “My journey to the Hands board began thanks to a troubled young person I knew. When everyone else had given up on him, Hands was there to help, with love, care, dedication, and commitment. I knew immediately that I wanted to get involved. In return, I know I’ve made a real contribution that has helped others. I’ve also made some incredible connections with other Board members and have learned about a wide range of topics from political structures, to finance, to social services, and culture and diversity.”

Board members attend monthly board meetings as well as one committee meeting.  There are many other ways for board members to get involved as well, including public events such as Light it up Blue and Mental Health Week, golf tournaments, fundraising opportunities and more. Hands values diversity and a wide range of experience, knowledge, abilities, and backgrounds and believe that the Board of Directors should reflect the diversity of the communities it serves.

Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca is dedicated to improving the life experiences of families, children, youth and adults with mental health concerns or a developmental disability, by providing them with help and support in facing and working through social, emotional, behavioural, physical and developmental difficulties.
