Guy's car breaks down. Cops charge driver with impaired

OPP say they have charged a man with drug and alcohol related charges after a call from the public complaining of a broken-down car on the side of Highway 63 Saturday morning. The caller believed the driver was impaired.

They found the vehicle in Poitras Township, north of Eldee. Officers found James Michael Belland, 34, of Kipawa Quebec, arrested and charged him with: 

  • Impaired Driving 
  • Over 80 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine

Belland was released on a Promise to Appear and is set to attend the North Bay Court of Justice on March 7.

"We rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently," said Provincial Constable Nathalie Muirhead in a news release.

"If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it."
