Gift basket giveaway aims to help local small businesses to stay afloat during the pandemic

'These small businesses really need customers to come to their business locations and hopefully purchase something to help them keep their doors open in hopes that when the pandemic is over these businesses will still be there for us to shop at in the future'

A pair of local business owners have an idea they hope will increase local shopping over the holiday season.

Brett Zufelt and Sandra Gauthier from Sun Life Financial are giving away a gift basket to one lucky winner on December 15.

"We recently opened a new office downtown at 347 Sherbrooke Street. We are small business owners ourselves and we want to show our support to the other small business owners in North Bay," Gauthier told BayToday. "We want to try and make a difference in our community and show our support for these businesses. We believe we are all in this together and we need to help each other through this difficult time. "

The gift basket is valued at roughly $1,180 and it consists of gift cards and products purchased from local small businesses that are trying to stay afloat during this pandemic.

"These small businesses really need customers to come to their business locations and hopefully purchase something to help them keep their doors open in hopes that when the pandemic is over these businesses will still be there for us to shop at in the future," says Gauthier. "We also want to let potential clients know where to find our new office as we try and get the word out that if anyone needs to meet with an advisor or just wants some information on what we offer we are here for them."

Ballot boxes can be found at several different small businesses in the North Bay area and anyone can fill out a ballot. There is no purchase necessary.

"They can complete the ballot and if they check off that they would like us to contact them only then we will reach out to them."
