The North Bay and Area Community Foundation announced new grants from the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund in partnership with the Rotary Club of North Bay. The Fund directly supports local organizations on the frontlines, specifically those in healthcare and food security.

The Mattawa Food Bank will be receiving $2,000 and the West Nipissing Food Bank will be receiving $2,000, as both organizations work to deal with the increased need.

Wayne Reid, President of the Mattawa Food Bank said, “This grant of $2,000 will be applied directly as our cupboards are thin at the moment of canned non-perishable goods. The impact is immediate as we prepare for another distribution day soon, for without sufficient cans we cannot pack a hamper which would seriously impact us. We expect an increase in clients anywhere from 25-50 per cent in a town where we already service close to 20 per cent of the population.”
