Some good and bad news over the long weekend from the Almaguin Highlands OPP.

The good news is no impaired charges were laid, the bad, 11 charges were laid for not moving over or slowing down for emergency vehicles.

From July 31 to August 3, officers issued a total of 62 Provincial Offences Notices, of which 39 tickets were for speeding, two for failing to surrender permit, 11 for failing to move over, three for liquor offences, two for small vessel regulation offences of the Canada Shipping Act and one ticket issued for failing to surrender insurance card.

Officers also conducted a number of R.I.D.E. programs but were happy to report no-one was arrested and charged for impaired driving this long weekend.

Police remind motorists that if you see an emergency vehicle or tow truck with its lights on and facing the same direction you are going, slow down and pass with caution. If the road has two or more lanes, you must move over and leave a lane between you and the emergency vehicle if you can do so safely. Failing to do so may result in a fine for a first-time offence of $400 to $2000 and three demerit points upon conviction.
