Last evening at the Annual Organizational Meeting of the Near North District School Board, David Thompson was acclaimed as Chair.
Thompson has been a Trustee with the Board since 2006, serving consecutive terms as Chair since 2014 and as Vice Chair from 2010-2013.
Trustee James Beatty was acclaimed for his third consecutive term as Vice-Chair. Beatty has served on the Board as a Trustee since 2010.
The Near North District School Board is an English language public school board providing French Immersion and Extended French programs in 28 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, an Adult and Continuing Education Centre as well as two Alternative Schools, within the Districts of Nipissing, Parry Sound and a portion of Muskoka.
Meanwhile, the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board appointed Barbara McCool and Jacques Bégin as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively.
McCool has served as Trustee with the Board since 1977 and has served as Chair of the Board since 2009. She has been involved in many initiatives during her tenure, previously serving as both member and chair of the NPSC Special Education Advisory Committee.
Bégin has served as Trustee with the Board since being elected in November of 1997, and was Chair of the Board in 2008-2009.
Trustees George Whittet (North Bay), Shawn Fitzsimmons (North Bay), Linda Jamieson (North Bay), John Willemsen (West Nipissing) and Judy Manitowabi (Nipissing First Nations) also serve on the Board.
“I am honoured and proud to serve as the Chair of the Board. Thank you for your faith in me and continued support,” said McCool.
The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board provides Catholic education to approximately 2,900 students in 11 elementary schools, one secondary school, and an alternative and continuing education program. The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board serves North Bay, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Powassan and Callander.
