Ecole Polytechnique walk and vigil planned for Monday

The next event in the celebration of CFUW North Bay’s 80h Anniversary is the Charitable Trust Walk and Vigil Monday, Dec. 6.  

The purpose of the Walk and Vigil is to honour the memories of the 14 women murdered during the tragic mass shooting at Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Dec. 6th 1989.

The Canadian Parliament has legislated December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

"Our Walk and Vigil is scheduled at approximately the time of the shooting Dec. 6th 1989," says Kaarina Tulisalo, Past President. "It is also a fundraiser for the National CFUW Ecole Polytechnique Commemorative Scholarship Award. The Walk and Vigil falls within the Sixteen Days of Activism against Violence Against Women from November 25th to December 10th."

4:45 pm THE WALK:  An easy, peasy ½ km : meet at the Vimy Ridge Monument, First Avenue,  walk begins at 5:00  Route: Vimy Ridge Memorial to Ferguson St. right to McIntyre Street, left to City Hall, Leger Square   

5:10  The Vigil at Leger Square (City Hall)  Ceremonies  include the welcome, purpose, reading of the names, the tent cards, the moment of silence, mix and mingle 

Donations to the CFUW Ecole Polytechnique Commemorative Scholarship Award can be made by cheque or online directly to The CFUW Charitable Trust.  

"The Charitable Trust Walk and Vigil this year will be our 18th year of honouring the women who lost their lives in the Ecole Polytechnique mass shooting and the many women who have lost their lives to gender based violence," concluded Tulisalo.
