East Ferris celebrates with volunteer awards Video

The Municipality of East Ferris named their 2021 Volunteer Recognition Award recipients today.

The Volunteer Recognition theme “the value of one - the power of many” reflects on the power of people working together. 

Former councillor Dan Corbeil got special recognition.

Corbeil died January 19 at age 86. He served 13 years as an East Ferris councillor and devoted much of his time to supporting the food bank, the community television channel, and was a founding member of the cenotaph committee

Mayor Pauline Rochefort called Corbeil "a fine example of such a volunteer, who through a shared vision and with leadership, engaged others in realizing a community Cenotaph and a Memorial Park.

"By honouring Dan’s volunteer work with Memorial Park, we are also honouring that of his extended Corbeil family," Rochefort said. "Since the Township’s inception, there are a number of Corbeil family members who have served in a volunteer capacity including as members of Council or with other community organizations. Unfortunately, Dan passed away earlier this year, but not without leaving us with a message that was included in his obituary, 'treasure your family, make time for others, serve your community, and find a way to make the world a little better.'  That seems like a perfect message in this week of volunteer recognition."
