A man wanted by police tried to escape but ended up stuck in a snowbank according to OPP.

Police arrested the driver today after his driving drove concerned members of the community to call them.

Yesterday evening Bracebridge OPP got several complaints about a small car being operated erratically in the Bracebridge area. Callers were able to describe the car and even reported the vehicles licence plate, dramatically increasing the officer's ability to find the offending vehicle.

"Shortly after midnight, on the morning of February 20th, officers observed the suspect vehicle in the Clearbrook Trail area of Bracebridge.," said Constable James Reading. "As officers closed in, the suspect attempted to back into a driveway to turn around, but instead struck a snow bank and found himself stuck. Officers approached the vehicle where they discovered drugs, open alcohol and were even handed fake insurance information for the vehicle."

As a result Zachary Sheard, 21 of Bracebridge was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Cocaine and
  • Using a Forged Document
  • Driving without proper rear lights - motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Possess fraudulent proof of insurance

The story reminded us of the old TV commercial that was used in the early 1970s as a public awareness campaign by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to reduce the number of collisions with snowplows.

It features the "Polar Jet High Lift Ice Ball Special" that keeps getting stuck in the "dad-gummed snow."
