Driver found sleeping on highway shoulder was impaired

Just before midnight on November 22 Nipissing West OPP officers investigated a report of a parked vehicle, with two people sleeping inside the vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 64, French River.

Police woke the driver up and it was determined she was impaired. The driver was arrested and taken to the Nipissing West OPP Detachment for further testing.

Drugs suspected to be cannabis and Fentanyl were seized from inside the vehicle.

Suzanne Marunde, 57, from French River, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid

Marunde was released both on an appearance notice and provincial summons and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 6, 2022, in Sturgeon Falls.

She was issued both a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
