Driver asleep at the wheel draws police attention

This marks the 67th driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020

A tip of a suspicious vehicle parked on Arcand Road in Sturgeon Falls with the driver sleeping behind the wheel. led to an impaired by drug charge over the weekend.

On November 29, at 10 a.m., Nipissing West OPP officers spoke with the driver, and concluded the woman was under the influence of a drug.  A Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted which resulted in a fail.

Further investigation by a Drug Recognition Expert was completed and as a result of this evaluation, the driver, Brenda Rainville, 55, from Lavigne was charged with "operation while impaired ."

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Rainville was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 11, 2021 in Sturgeon Falls.

Meanwhile in a related story, a late-night patrol of a residential area in Bolton led to the arrests of two people sleeping in a stolen car.

OPP would like to remind residents that reporting suspicious activity immediately can help police prevent or interrupt crime or impaired drivers.
