NORTH BAY, October 9, 2014- Discovery North Bay Museum will receive $3100 from the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) in order to expand school programming at the museum.

The funding came from the Provincial office of the RTO as part of their Service to Others program.   The grant will allow museum staff and volunteers to work with the RTO to create a new program that will teach students about the lives of early settlers through learning about historic clothing and learning to card and spin wool.

Quotes:

Museum Director/Curator Naomi Rupke:

“Discovery North Bay Museum strives to provide local educators with quality programming which relates to Provincial Curriculum at a modest price. This grant from the RTO will allow the museum to improve the quality of programming offered to local school groups.  Museum staff, retired teachers, and other volunteers will have the tools required to enhance the early settlers unit at the museum.

Students will be able to learn about the lives of early settlers while learning traditional skills often unknown in today’s society. “

RTO Member Joanne Bernier:

"RTO Nipissing District 43 values its partnership within our community in promoting education for youth and children, and in raising awareness of the valuable contribution of community services such as the Discovery North Bay Museum.
