Digital Filmmaking for Aboriginal Community Announced

(NORTH BAY, ONT.) – Members of the Aboriginal community can participate in an introduction to digital filmmaking workshop on Monday.

This free workshop, with an Aboriginal focus, will provide participants with the opportunity to practice the many components of filmmaking, including brainstorming ideas, script development, rehearsing, recording, and editing. Those attending will also learn about the business of the film industry, and discuss the steps in distributing films to festivals.

“This workshop is all about creativity, teamwork and communication skills,” said Richard Story, Professor of the Digital Cinematography program at Canadore College. “We don’t get the opportunity to use professional equipment often and we encourage everybody to have fun while also learning about a growing industry!”

Story will be instructing the session and hopes to help participants better understand how to use these skills throughout the process of developing a short film. He is also excited to share his experience in production with emerging Aboriginal filmmakers.

“Aboriginal Peoples are natural storytellers and have an innate sense in applying originality and imagination to their work,” said Story. “From writing to shooting to acting, they bring an amazing amount of creative energy and versatility to the media industry.”
