Crack cocaine seized by West Nipissing police

On Saturday, January 19, while on general patrol on Cache Bay Road, police saw a vehicle with unauthorized plates attached to it.

The officer tried a traffic stop; however, the suspect fled from police.

The vehicle came to a stop a short distance away and the driver was taken into custody.

Upon searching the driver and the vehicle, police discovered a small amount suspected “crack cocaine”.

The driver, 30-year-old Yves Lachapelle of Verner now faces charges of:

  • Fail to comply with an undertaking,
  • flight from police,
  • possession of a controlled substance,
  • driving while under suspension,
  • operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and
  • use plates unauthorized for the vehicle.
