Union Gas is giving its support to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) through a $2,000 grant for its environmental outreach and education initiatives.

“We at Union Gas believe education brings about many rewards,” said Glen Huard, supervisor of construction and growth, Union Gas.

“We support important educational programs in the communities we serve, helping our children learn about the world around them.”

NBMCA’s education and outreach initiatives include the Chippewa Creek EcoPath, the EcoPath Festival, Adopt-the-Creek Program and school-based curriculum for creek studies and watershed awareness. The Union Gas community vitality grant will help support these programs.

“As watershed managers, one of NBMCA’s goals is to foster environmentally sustainable behaviours within our community. That’s why we have special events and initiatives which engage children, youth, adults and families,” said Dave Mendicino, NBMCA chair.

“We’re grateful to Union Gas for supporting the vitality of our watersheds.”

NBMCA’s mandate is to provide effective leadership in the management of our watersheds where partners and communities are actively engaged in balancing human needs with the needs of the natural environment. NBMCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario.
