Amyot is also an active volunteer, serving as chair of the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics, the chair of the Advisory Committee of the Institute of Science, Society and Policy (ISSP), and on the Advisory Council of the Schulich Centre for Excellence in Public Management, Western University. She has obtained a Master's degree in Education and three Bachelor degrees in Biology, in Arts and in Education.

“You would be hard pressed to find anyone else with Denise’s sense of adventure and level of enthusiasm,” said George Burton, President and CEO of Canadore College. “She is a tireless advocate for higher education. Her vision for strengthening Canada’s global position in the labour market has resulted in many partnerships that have led to unique opportunities here in Canada and all over the world. ”

Students from Canadore College’s one year Indigenous Community Diabetes Support program, delivered at the First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ont., will be joining the convocation ceremony in North Bay for the first time.
