As the Nipissing Lakers continue to grow and find success on the ice, field and court, their contributions and success in the classroom is just as important.
And it has been just as successful.
In 1988, the CIS introduced its first Academic All-Canadians, those exceptional student-athletes who achieve an academic standing of 80 per cent or better, all while playing on one of their university’s varsity teams.
In 2013-14, the Lakers reached new heights, as 50 student-athletes were awarded the prestigious distinction, up from 32 the year before.
Students at Nipissing University strive for excellence in sport, academics and in the great community.
CIS Academic All-Canadian distinction is one of the highest recognitions a university student athlete can receive.
Athletes at Nipissing University spend over 20 hours per week on school work, while committing at least another 20 hours to athletics, as they practice daily and compete most weekends.
On top of this, many student-athletes find the time to volunteer with various community organizations.
The athletes who earn this prestigious honour are inspirational to the great Nipissing community and Lakers Athletics would like to congratulate them for their work ethic and determination.
In total, throughout nine years of Lakers athletes being awarded the honour, the department has a total of 174 CIS Academic All-Canadians.
The Lakers will celebrate the accomplishments of these student-athletes at a ceremony in March.
