This past week, Chippewa Secondary School completed the last official step to become an International
Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Chippewa has been a candidate school for the past two years and has been
involved in specialized training for staff, curriculum writing for new courses and advanced preparatory
programming for students in Grades 9 and 10.
The IB Diploma Programme, which has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities,
is an academically challenging and balanced program of education with final examinations. The programme
aspires to help schools develop well-rounded students with character who respond to challenges with
optimism and an open mind, are confident in their own identities, make ethical decisions, join with others in
celebrating our common humanity and are prepared to apply what they learn in real-world, complex and
unpredictable situations. Students study within a diverse range of challenging subject areas. The programme
also includes second language learning in French, an extended essay and extensive community service and
leadership.
