Child's toy chest smashed in alcohol fueled domestic dispute

On March 19, shortly after 11:30 p.m., East Algoma OPP officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a home in Blind River. 

Police say that a couple that began dating in August 2017 had separated a week earlier. 

That evening the ex-boyfriend went the woman's apartment to help her move. 

They then had a few alcoholic beverages and an argument started. 

As the woman was trying to leave the apartment, the man grabbed her, but she managed to escape.

The ex-boyfriend then took her packed items, that were inside his vehicle, and threw them into the parking lot breaking the woman's daughter's toy chest.

Police found, arrested and "lodged" him at the Blind River Detachment until he was sober.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old male from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Assault-Spousal, and with
  • Mischief Under $5000,

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 18.
