Regional Conference with Key Note Speaker Rick Lavoie

A motivational speaker of international acclaim will be live in Sudbury as the keynote speaker for the first annual regional conference to deliver a free public presentation for parents/guardians, educators and community members. However parents and educators in North Bay and Nipissing do not have to travel to Sudbury to see his presentation. This presentation will be live-streamed on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 7:00pm to the Weaver Auditorium Room B200 at Canadore College, 100 College Drive. Everyone is welcome!

Rick Lavoie, an educator and champion for students with special needs, will present his new presentation on social success and mental health for children with learning differences.

This seminar will explore the relationship between learning differences, disabilities, and social incompetence and will identify the specific causes for special social skills deficits. Field tested strategies will be presented that can be used by parents, teachers, coaches, and caregivers to assist students in gaining peer acceptance and developing age-appropriate social skills.

Lavoie is the author of the book “It’s So Much Work to Be Your Friend: Helping the Child with Learning Disabilities Find Social Success” and his recent videos “Beyond F.A.T. City: A Look Back, A Look Ahead” and “Rick Lavoie: The Motivational Breakthrough”, are among the most widely distributed films in educational media. He has delivered his message to over 500,000 parents and professionals throughout North America, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. Lavoie has the distinction of having delivered keynote addresses for all three major special needs advocacy organizations in the United States (Learning Disabilities Association (LDA), Council for Exceptional Children, Children with Attention Deficit Disorder).

Members of the LDA North Bay Community Advisory Committee will be on hand at this live-streamed event to discuss specific cases and provide additional information.

A proud United Way-funded agency, The Learning Disabilities Association of North Bay would like to thank our partners including school boards, Canadore College and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support in bringing this live-streamed event to North Bay.
