Car in ditch north of city leads to two arrests

On July 24, at 5:36 a.m., an OPP officer was traveling on Highway 11 in Merrick Township when he saw a vehicle in the ditch. 

The officer stopped to conduct an investigation and help the motorists. 

Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle had been consuming alcohol and the passenger was in breach of conditions. 

Sergey Zubko, age 38, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol,
  • Driving with More than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood, 
  • Driving while under Suspension, (x2).

He was released on a Recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on August 8. 

Guerman Pouchkine, age 33, of Richmond Hill, was found to be breaching the conditions of two separate Alberta recognizances including a condition not to leave the Province of Alberta. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (x8).
