Canadore College’s unique theatre company is back for its 12th season with Jean Anouilh’s, The Lark.

The company, Rep 21, will tell the story and trial of Joan of Arc, a simple shepherdess who becomes forever a symbol of courage and hope.

Written in 1953 by Jean Anouilh, The Lark (translated from its original version, L’Alouette), recounts a tale of the French heroine who endured centuries of abuse, repudiation, prejudice, misunderstanding and indifference.

“At just 18-years-old, Joan of Arc is credited with leading the French army to victory over the English during the Hundred Years’ War,” said Rod Carley, award-winning artistic director of Rep 21 and professor in the acting for stage and screen program. “InThe Lark, Anouilh recaptures what we might have been in danger of losing – the true spirit of Joan of Arc, full dedication and wonder.”

Theatrical performances will take place July 18 – 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Canadore College’s Television Studio (C171) at College Drive Campus (100 College Drive). There will also be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on July 21. Seating is limited.

Show patrons are asked to give a monetary donation to the Gathering Place in lieu of admission, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the community organization that provides nutritious meals to people in need.
