Canadore College officially named and launched its entrepreneurship hub on Wednesday.

The Caisse Populaire Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Employer Services Hub is home to the North Bay On-Campus Entrepreneurship Activities (OCEA) program. Various initiatives foster and encourage an overall sense of entrepreneurial development within the Canadore community through awareness, educational activities and events.

“Today’s employers are looking for people that will bring entrepreneurial mind-sets and skills to add value to their organizations,” said Mary O’Farrell-Bowers, vice-president of academic. “The services, resources, programs, and opportunities for collaboration will spur innovation within existing organizations and promote small business start-ups. Our students, employees and community will all benefit.”

Norman St. Amour, general manager at Caisse Populaire North Bay couldn’t agree with O’Farrell-Bowers more. He says Caisse Populaire believes in cultivating people and partnering with Canadore on the centre made perfect sense.

“Our community has so many bright and talented youth just waiting to realize their potential,” said St. Amour.

“But you can’t achieve success without a supporting cast around you. We are very excited to be a part of the team that will help our young people thrive in their careers.”

As a part of the Caisse’s $35,000 cash donation to create a scholarship to support small business start-ups, the institution will provide thousands of dollars for in-kind student education and employee professional development.

The Caisse E-Hub provides regional youth with access to grants, events, workshops, mentorship programs, collaborative workspace, resources, internship and networking opportunities, and more.
