Bystanders save child from drowning in Kirkland Lake river

The OPP credits the members of the public for their quick actions and bravery in the rescuing of the child

OPP are crediting the quick action of nearby people for saving the life of a child that had fallen into the Blanche River in Kirkland Lake. The river, east of the town flows into Gull Lake.

Police say on Sunday evening around 7:30. officers responded to a report of a child that fell into the waterway.

"Nearby members of the public reacted quickly, located the unresponsive victim, retrieved them from the water and began CPR," says Constable Adam Gauthier. "Police arrived on scene and continued the lifesaving measures and were able to resuscitate the victim."

The victim was taken to the hospital by EMS for assessment.
